Kansas City police responded to the area of East 10th Street and Olive Street on Jan. 26, 2022, and located the deceased victim in the driver's seat of a vehicle.
Based on witness reports and cellphone records, two suspects, one later identified as Maurice Green, approached the vehicle the victim was sitting in and opened fire into the vehicle.
In the street near the crime scene, detectives found a single black and white Nike sandal. The defendant's DNA was later found on the sandal, and he acknowledged the sandal belonged to him.
The defendant was almost 18 years old when the murder occurred and was certified to stand trial as an adult.
