Prohibited practices
Employers:

Labor organizations:
Illegally excluding or expelling members or discriminating against them.
Employment agencies:
Illegally failing or refusing to refer for employment or discriminating against individuals.
Training programs:
Discriminating against individuals in admission to or employment in any program.
Scope of protection
The law prohibits discrimination in various aspects of employment, including hiring, compensation, benefits, advancement, and termination.
It also covers practices that limit or classify employees in a way that deprives them of employment opportunities or adversely affects their status.
Other relevant laws
Other laws, such as the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, address discrimination based on age and disability, respectively.
Discrimination against federal government employees is prohibited under a separate but related section, 42 U.S. Code § 2000e-16.
