In June of 2025, in Meade County, Kaine Sander, 22, of Sturgis, South Dakota, was the passenger in a car stopped by a police officer for having a cracked windshield. Sander possessed a revolver along with ammunition and THC. Sander had previously been convicted of a felony and as a result, is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. To do so constitutes a federal felony crime.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sturgis Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case.
