Nashville police officer Hankison was charged with using excessive force in shooting Breona Taylor during a botched drug raid.
Taylor, 26, was inside her apartment when she was fatally shot by plainclothes officers around 12:40 a.m. on March 13, 2020, during a botched narcotics investigation.
A pre-sentence report prepared by the United States Probation Office recommended a sentence between 11.25 and 14 years, according to court documents. The Justice Department memo said that range was incorrectly calculated and "excessive," recommending that the court "grant a significant downward departure."
The DOJ is requesting that Hankison be sentenced to one day in custody.
