Anna Palova claimed that United Airlines ("United”) unlawfully terminated her on the basis of her age, in violation of the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act ("ADEA”) and the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act ("TCHRA”). United contends that Palova violated her collective bargaining agreement by manipulating flight assignments to benefit her and her colleagues.

The district court concluded that the Railway Labor Act (“RLA”), which divests federal courts of jurisdiction over certain employer-employee disputes, applied to Palova’s claims, and granted summary judgment in United’s favor.
