In 2021, a grand jury charged Eric Roberts, Ronald McGuire, Lowell Sargent, Christopher Shaun Ragle, and Philip Lala, alongside ten co-defendants, in a six-count superseding indictment for their respective roles in a large drug-trafficking organization. The scheme was simple: the defendants would purchase marijuana from states in which it had been legalized, often California and Oregon, and distribute it throughout twenty-one other states.
