Date: 08-14-2023
Case Number: 2:22-cv-01865
Judge: Marilyn J. Horan

"Employment discrimination is a form of illegal discrimination in the workplace based on legally protected characteristics. In the United States, federal anti-discrimination law prohibits discrimination by employers against employees based on age, race, color, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), religion, and physical or mental disability. State and local laws often protect additional characteristics such as marital status, veteran status and caregiver/familial status.
Some examples of employment discrimination include:
Refusing to hire someone because of their race, gender, or religion.
Firing someone because of their age, disability, or sexual orientation.
Demoting someone because of their national origin.
Paying someone less than their co-workers because of their sex.
Harassment in the workplace based on a protected characteristic.
If you believe that you have been discriminated against in the workplace, you can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces anti-discrimination laws. You can file a complaint online or by mail.
The EEOC will investigate your complaint and determine whether there is enough evidence to support it. If the EEOC finds that you have been discriminated against, it will try to reach a settlement with your employer. If a settlement cannot be reached, the EEOC may file a lawsuit on your behalf.
You can also file a lawsuit on your own against your employer if you believe that you have been discriminated against. However, it is important to note that employment discrimination cases can be difficult to win. You will need to have strong evidence to support your claim.
If you have been discriminated against in the workplace, it is important to speak up. You have rights, and you should not be afraid to stand up for them."
