United States of America v. Anthony Gilbert Thompson

Albuquerque, New Mexico criminal law lawyer represented defendant charged with failure to register as a sex offender, escape from custody and possession of child pornography.



Richard Gilbert Thompson, age 33, was convicted in 2009 and again in 2012 for possession of child pornography. Thompson was finishing his second prison term in a residential reentry center in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he escaped the facility on Feb. 6, 2020. He was later found and arrested in Roswell, New Mexico, by the U.S. Marshals Service on June 18, 2020. Thompson had not notified authorities in Nevada or New Mexico that he would be residing or working in New Mexico, in violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. At the time of his arrest, Thompson was in possession of child pornography. In addition to the charge of escape from custody, Thompson also had a pending charge of possession of child pornography in the District of Nevada.



Upon his release from prison, Thompson will be subject to 10 years of supervised release and must continue to register as a sex offender.



The U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, and Roswell Police Department investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorneys Joni Autrey Stahl and Matilda McCarthy Villalobos prosecuted the case.
