Kimberly Wright v. City of Philadelphia

Kimberly Wright sued the City of Philadelphia and others on a civil rights theory claiming that she was wrongfully arrested by Philadelphia police officers for burglary. Wright told police that she had been raped and that she broke into her attacker's house to secure evidence against him. Wright claimed that she was attacked shortly after 4 a.m. on December 16, 1999 after her car broke down at Chew and Chelten Avenues when she was going home from a party.
Ronald Jackson and Nimar Thompson abducted her and injected her with drugs. She claimed that she passed out and woke up in a house on Cedar Park Avenue partially dress. The men were putting on their pants when she regained consciousness. The further asserted that the men dragged her out of the house and dumped her outside before driving away in a car. She broke into the house by smashing a window. She found a photograph of her attackers. Police officers did not believe her claim that she had been raped and arrested her for burglary.
She claimed that the police mishandled her sex-crime claim but both men were eventually arrested, prosecuted and convicted.

The City admitted some mistakes but claimed that reforms had been made to the way the City of Philadelphia Police Department response to allegations of sexual crimes.
