Dabin Jeon, age 31, met the victim online in 2019 and the two began a relationship when they both lived in New York. At Jeon’s request, the victim began providing him with financial assistance until she moved back to Maine and told him she could no longer afford to give him money. In response, Jeon threatened to rape the victim’s mother, send explicit pictures he took of the victim to her employer, friends, and family, and harm her grandparents. Based on these threats, the victim continued sending money to Jeon. Jeon also demanded that the victim account for her whereabouts and gave her tasks to complete.
Outcome:
The Defendant was found guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $40,181.72 in restitution to the victim.
