Description:
Minneapolis, Minnesota civil rights lawyer represented Plaintiff who sued Defendant on an employment discrimination theory.

"Employment discrimination is when an employer treats an employee or applicant differently because of their race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability, or genetic information.

Employment discrimination can occur in a variety of ways, including:

Hiring: An employer may refuse to hire someone because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Firing: An employer may fire someone because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Promotion: An employer may deny a promotion to someone because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Pay: An employer may pay someone less than someone else because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Terms and conditions of employment: An employer may give someone different terms and conditions of employment because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

Harassment: An employer may create a hostile work environment for someone because of their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.

If you believe that you have been discriminated against in employment, you have a number of legal options. You can file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). You can also file a lawsuit in federal or state court.

The EEOC is a federal agency that enforces the federal anti-discrimination laws. If you file a complaint with the EEOC, the EEOC will investigate your complaint and, if it finds that there is reasonable cause to believe that discrimination has occurred, it will try to reach a settlement with your employer. If the EEOC is unable to reach a settlement, you may be able to file a lawsuit in federal court.

If you file a lawsuit in federal or state court, you will need to prove that your employer discriminated against you because of your race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. You will also need to prove that you suffered damages as a result of the discrimination.

If you are successful in your lawsuit, you may be able to recover damages for your lost wages, emotional distress, and other losses. You may also be able to get an order from the court that requires your employer to change its policies or practices to prevent future discrimination.

Employment discrimination is a serious problem, but there are legal protections available to you if you believe that you have been discriminated against. If you have any questions about employment discrimination, you should speak to an attorney."
