Additional Information: Katharyn E. Owen is a registered patent attorney and concentrates her practice in all areas of Intellectual Property and Business Law. Her practice areas include patent, trademark and copyright drafting and prosecution, enforcement, defense and licensing. Her practice also includes infringement analysis, due diligence, right to use and validity studies. She also assists clients in business and commercial law-related issues, including commercial and residential real estate, contract drafting, internet domain name issues, franchise agreement negotiation, software development agreements, and other business related-matters.

Drafted and prosecuted numerous U.S. and International (PCT) patent applications relating to electrical, computer and mechanical systems, including computer hardware and software, medical imaging systems, medical devices, chemical processes, plant physiology and also general mechanical products.
Drafted and prosecuted numerous trademark applications while also counseling clients on availability, protection and proper use of trademarks, both domestically and internationally.
Assisted various business owners and individuals by organizing limited liability companies, preparing general partnership agreements and limited partnership agreements, creating joint ventures, effecting mergers or consolidations of business entities and handling transactions that arise out of their intellectual property endeavors.

Prior to attending law school, Ms. Owen worked for a medical implantable device company, creating surgical equipment to assist orthopedic surgeons with knee, hip and shoulder replacements. She worked with other engineers and directly with orthopedic surgeons to produce custom equipment needed to fill the special needs of individual orthopedic patients, many of the products later being patented by the company. Ms. Owen also worked as a computer software programmer on a bioinformatics research project for the National Institute of Health as part of a team to create software to assist researchers. The computer software was created to catalogue a multitude of electrical brain wave readings into an easily accessible library, from which different properties of brain function could be determined. She received publication accolades for this effort.
