Additional Information: Bennie L. Turner is a native of West Point, Clay County, Mississippi. Turner received an Associate in Science Degree in Government from Mary Holmes College, West Point, MS; A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Mississippi State University, Starkville, MS. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Mississippi, School of Law, Oxford, MS. Turner was elected to the Mississippi Senate (District 16) in November, 1992. Senate District 16 includes all of Clay and parts of Lowndes, Oktibbeha and Noxubee Counties. He is serving a second four (4) year term as a Chairman of the Mississippi State Senate Judiciary Committee.. Turner is Past-President of the Clay County Bar Association. He served three (4 year) terms as County Prosecutor for Clay County, Mississippi. In 1990 the Supreme Court of Mississippi reappointed Turner to a third (3 year) term on the State Board of Bar Admissions. Turner is Past-President of the Magnolia Bar Foundation, Inc., a voluntary association of Mississippi attorneys organized to provide public education on access to the legal system and scholarships to needy law students. Turner has, for the past 15 years, focused his legal practice on representing personal injury plaintiffs for claims resulting from automobile collisions, railroad grade crossing collisions and products liability. He is presently managing partner of Turner & Associates Law Firm, West Point, Mississippi. He is a member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he serves as Chairman of the Steward Boards. Turner is also a life member of the NAACP. Bennie is married to the former Edna Walker of Columbus Mississippi and they have three daughters: Angela, Carolyn and Leta.
