Additional Information: Elizabeth Burke’s practice involves most aspects of patent-related work, with a focus on client counseling and patent portfolio management and analysis. She has considerable experience building and managing patent portfolios for clients of all sizes.

Ms. Burke has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and has significant experience in securing patent protection outside of the United States. She also has significant experience in PTO proceedings such as appeals, reissues, and reexaminations.

Ms. Burke counsels clients during all stages of product development, from inception of the design process to sale of the final product. She analyzes competitor patent portfolios to advise clients on opportunities for expansion as well as to counsel clients about potential risks. She advises clients about infringement risks during the design process and has coordinated clearance studies requiring the evaluation of competitor patents. She also studies competitor products to advise clients on enforcement of their patent portfolios and often prepares validity, infringement, patentability, and clearance opinions. Ms. Burke also has handled due diligence investigations. While in law school, Ms. Burke worked at Finnegan as a student associate, gaining experience in patent prosecution and opinion work.

Her technical expertise includes mechanical and electromechanical technologies, with a particular emphasis on medical devices. She frequently represents clients in the consumer products, industrial manufacturing, and medical device industries.
