Additional Information: MELICENT B. THOMPSON
received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1989, and her law degree, with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1996. Her legal practice focuses on insurance coverage analyses, coverage litigation, and commercial and insurance defense litigation. She also has substantial experience in environmental law counseling and litigation and fair credit reporting litigation.

Ms. Thompson was a panelist at the American Bar Association’s 2009 Annual Conference presentation of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee’s section on Tort & Trial Insurance Practice regarding “Fairness and Efficiency of Appraisal and Arbitration Clauses.” She also has presented regularly on defense litigation issues at the annual conference of The National Forum for Environmental and Toxic Tort Issues (“FETTI”), and previously acted as the Editor-In-Chief of FETTI’s quarterly newsletters. She also has presented at continuing education seminars on the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the Endangered Species Act.

Ms. Thompson is a member of both the Connecticut and Georgia bars. She has authored numerous articles pertaining to insurance coverage and insurance claim handling, including, most recently, “Bankruptcy’s Impact On Insurers’ Interpleader Options Under First Circuit Law,” FETTI Newsletter Winter 2006 Newsletter; and “Proper Claim Handling Makes All The Difference In Avoiding Exposure Under New York Law For Bad Faith Failure To Settle Within Policy Limits,” FETTI Newsletter Winter 2005.

In law school, Ms. Thompson was the Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Law Review, and received CALI Awards for Excellence in Statutory Interpretation and Constitutional Federalism. Ms. Thompson also received the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation's Award for "Exceptional Achievement in Scholarship.” Prior to attending law school, Ms. Thompson worked as an environmental consultant in Washington D.C. and Connecticut, specializing in regulatory compliance and site auditing.
