Additional Information: Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Alan Charles Dell’Ario, was raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Fullerton, California. As a youngster, he developed interests in piano and golf.

Graduating 5th in his class at Fullerton’s Sunny Hills High, he matriculated to Stanford in 1965. He had a scholarship from Beckman Instruments which was supplemented by various jobs. At Stanford he studied history and economics, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in 1969.

Following graduation, Mr. Dell’Ario entered the Army as an infantry lieutenant. He served at Ft. Benning, Georgia and Ft. Carson, Colorado before completing a tour of duty in Vietnam with the Americal Division. Discharged in 1971, he commenced his legal studies at Hastings College of the Law.

While at Hastings, Mr. Dell’Ario was published in the Hastings Law Journal. He co-founded the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, now in its twenty-eighth volume. He was conferred membership in the Order of the Coif honorary society and the dean honored him as one of the five outstanding seniors in 1973-1974.

His law practice commenced with Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean (then Orr, Wendel & Lawlor) as a business litigator in 1974. He made partner in 1979. While at Wendel, he tried cases and handled his first appeals. His practice included land use matters and he handled a significant Proposition 13 case that was resolved on appeal. Meanwhile, he was teaching first-year law students how to write and research. In 1978, he moved from San Francisco and took residence in Oakland. He has resided in the Oakland hills since 1980 but spends considerable time in Idaho.

In 1982, Mr. Dell’Ario started his own practice, continuing to specialize in business litigation and appeals. He became active in State Bar disciplinary activities. He served a term as a volunteer state bar appellate judge and later served on a committee overseeing bar discipline. In association with the Oakland office of the Veteran's Administration, he began assisting veterans with legal problems. In 1991, he became a member of the Idaho State Bar.

As his practice matured, he continued to handle more appellate matters, and in 1995, when the state bar first offered the examination for appellate specialist, he became a certified specialist. There are fewer than 250 certified appellate specialists state-wide.

He still made time to try some cases. In December, 1995, he won a $1.9M jury verdict for a homeowner who had been the victim of pervasive loan fraud. His current practice is 100% appellate matters, post-trial and dispositive motions. Since 1990, he has participated in over 150 appeals in the California Courts of Appeal alone. He has written or lectured on post-trial motions, on truth-in-lending, on summary judgment, on bankruptcy appeals and on fees and costs.

Away from the office, Mr. Dell’Ario spends time honing his prize-winning cooking talents. He still has time for his piano and golf.
