Emily represents individuals harmed by others’ wrongful conduct in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases, environmental cases, propane gas explosions, automobile accidents, as well as those injured in nursing homes, in work-place accidents, and as a result of medical negligence. She also represents individuals harmed by sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful discharge.
Emily works in partnership with her clients to seek real justice –by holding wrongdoers responsible for the damages they cause, and by encouraging them to change the policies or behaviors that led to the harm in the first place – so that others are spared similar injuries. That philosophy, and her success with it, has led to her recognition as one of the Best Lawyers in America® in personal injury litigation.
Emily joined Langrock Sperry & Wool in 1983, after clerking for the Vermont Supreme Court. Emily is President of the Vermont Association for Justice, and is a frequent presenter in litigation seminars. She has written several articles, including “Propane Explosions in Snow Country,” 34 Vermont Law Review 633, 2010; “Representing Plaintiffs in Common Law Pollution Actions,” Chapter 7, Vermont Environmental Law Practice Manual, 1998; “Parents’ Pecuniary Injuries for the Wrongful Death of An Adult Child,” 12 Vermont Law Review 57, 1987; and “Pro-se Divorce: A Strategy for Empowering Women,” 1 Journal of Law & Inequality, 1983.
Emily lives in Middlebury with her family. She is active on the boards of several non-profit organizations. She enjoys time with her family, cross country skiing, practicing yoga, gardening and knitting.
