Randy is an accomplished trial attorney with more than 25 years of legal experience in Colorado, where he has prevailed in many jury trials. Prior to law school, Randy was an accomplished swimmer, having competed nationally and internationally. Randy received the high honor and designation of college All-American, awarded to him by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Randy also excelled academically in college and was named frequently to the Dean’s List. In law school, Randy continued his academic success and graduated in the top 10% of his class from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1986. Randy was awarded the Wesemann Academic Scholarship, and was selected to the Moot Court Team and the Mock Trial Team to compete nationally against other law schools. Randy also was selected to the Valparaiso University Law Review, where he served as the Business Editor.

After law school, Randy began his professional legal career in Colorado as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Charles D. Pierce of the Colorado Court of Appeals. This highly respected judicial clerkship position allowed Randy to hone his legal research and writing skills, while drafting many published opinions. Randy concluded his clerkship in 1988 and launched his career as a trial attorney. Since then, he has litigated many types of cases, including cases involving motor vehicle accidents, traumatic brain injuries, personal injury, environmental contamination and cleanup, employment discrimination, commercial transactions, landlord-tenant, premises liability, products liability, construction defect, gas pipeline explosions, and more. Randy has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Colorado courts and the rules of civil procedure, having conducted successful court and jury trials in both state and federal courts.

Randy also has appeared before various appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court, where he briefed the Court on a significant matter related to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (a/k/a “OSHA”). Randy was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar in 1990, and has represented a variety of clients, including individuals and companies of all sizes. Some of his clients have been Fortune 500 companies litigating complex, multi-party matters involving billions of dollars. Other cases involved less money, but were equally as important to Randy and his clients.

At Lasater & Martin, P.C., Randy has prevailed in several trials in which he obtained favorable jury verdicts for his clients. One case involved a fight near a Denver tavern, in which the plaintiff sustained a traumatic brain injury and sued Randy’s client, asking the jury for more than $16 million. The trial lasted two weeks, and all claims against Randy’s client were dismissed. Another case involved a plaintiff seeking more than $4 million for injuries sustained in an alleged fall on property owned by Randy’s client. The trial lasted a week, and the jury returned a verdict in favor of Randy’s client in less than an hour.

Randy grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, where he still visits frequently to see friends. He and his wife, Tina, were married in Maui, Hawaii and currently live in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where their children are active in school and sports.
