He has argued 18 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and played a substantial role in the briefing or oral argument of more than 200 appeals. Named a Legal “Champion” by the National Law Journal and an “Appellate MVP” by Law360, he has been described by Chambers USA as “a brilliant lawyer” and “a great oral advocate” who “gets tremendous respect from the court.” Mr. Long, who also advises clients on administrative law and antitrust matters, was a law clerk to Justice Lewis F. Powell, Jr., of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge John Minor Wisdom of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. From 1990 to 1993, he served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. Mr. Long is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he has taught administrative law and a seminar on the U.S. Solicitor General’s Office.
