Emily Gurskis focuses her practice on representing individuals and companies in criminal matters and parallel civil proceedings, as well as in internal investigations. She has experience defending clients in a wide variety of cases, including fraud, price-fixing, bribery, embezzlement, Taft-Hartley violations, environmental offenses, and export control violations. Emily also has extensive experience with federal commutation petitions, most recently obtaining clemency for a client who served 18 years of a 40-year sentence for a non-violent drug offense.

Emily is an active member of the pro bono community and co-chairs the D.C. office’s pro bono committee. She organized Cozen’s Clemency Project initiative and now supervises the group of about 30 attorneys drafting petitions as part of Clemency Project 2014. She has also done work for the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project.

Emily graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, cum laude, and Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Emily’s honors included the Order of the Barristers, the Dean Dunmore Award for Excellence in oral Advocacy, advocacy, and legal writing, and she was a Kramer Scholar, which provided a full scholarship for her final two years for dedication to public service.
