Christopher J. Gramiccioni was born at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and spent his youth living in several locations around the world and country. In 1994, Mr. Gramiccioni graduated with honors from Towson University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Geography, and a minor in Business Administration. In 1998, Mr. Gramiccioni was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
In January 1997, Mr. Gramiccioni was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps and, in March 1999, reported to San Diego, California where he was assigned tours as a prosecutor, defense attorney and legal assistance advisor. While serving as a prosecutor, Mr. Gramiccioni prosecuted hundreds of criminal matters, including cases involving sex assault, fraud, child physical/sexual abuse, larceny, narcotics-related offenses, alien smuggling, computer crimes and various military-related offenses. Mr. Gramiccioni also provided at-sea legal services to military personnel attached to a number of vessel commands, and handled cases at numerous other naval bases, including those in Seattle, San Francisco, Lemoore and Los Angeles. In 2001, Mr. Gramiccioni reported to San Juan, Puerto Rico and served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, where he prosecuted sensitive cases arising from protests of naval activities on the island of Vieques on behalf of the United States Attorney's Office in the District of Puerto Rico. Thereafter, from 2001 to 2002, Mr. Gramiccioni served as an appellate government counsel in Washington, DC, where he drafted appellate briefs involving constitutional issues, statutory interpretation and evidentiary issues, and presented oral arguments on behalf of the United States in federal court. Mr. Gramiccioni left active duty in June 2002, affiliated with the Naval Reserve and currently is commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander (O-4).
From August 2002 to February 2011, Mr. Gramiccioni served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he handled hundreds of federal criminal investigations and prosecutions. During his tenure with the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey, Mr. Gramiccioni worked in the Special Prosecutions (Public Corruption) Division, the Organized Crime & Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Unit and the Terrorism Unit. The types of cases handled by Mr. Gramiccioni included extortion and bribery matters, mail, wire and bank fraud cases, money laundering, narcotics crimes, material support of terrorism cases, financial and tax crimes and various gang-related violent crimes. During a one-year tenure at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, Mr. Gramiccioni handled numerous federal criminal investigations and prosecutions, including material support of terrorism cases, Foreign Corrupt Practice Act (FCPA) and export control violations, child pornography offenses and various mail, bank and wire frauds.
In February 2011, Mr. Gramiccioni joined the Office of the Monmouth County Prosecutor as its First Assistant Prosecutor. In this capacity, Mr. Gramiccioni oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Office, including all assistant prosecutors, detectives, paralegals and clerical/administrative employees. Mr. Gramiccioni is also the Chairman of the Professionalism Committee and is a member of the Criminal Practice Committee for the Monmouth Bar Association.
On July 1, 2012, Mr. Gramiccioni was appointed Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor by New Jersey Attorney General, Jeffrey S. Chiesa.
