Allen was born in Beaumont, Texas on July 29, 1960. He received his undergraduate education at Southwestern University in Georgetown (B.A., cum laude, 1982). Allen attended law school at the University of Texas (J.D. 1985). While working for U.S. Congressman Mac Sweeney in Washington, D.C., Allen was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1987. Prior to his stint in Washington, D.C., he served as the ethicist for the Round Rock Hospital. Allen returned to Austin in 1989 to work with one of his former law professors at Brothers, Reavis & McGinnis, and came to this firm with colleagues from Hearne & Eppright in January of 2001. Allen has since been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Western and Southern Districts of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
