Additional Information: Matthew is a native of Hartley, Iowa. He graduated from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in 2001. Matthew attended Drake University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2005. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Matthew worked for NewLink Genetics in Ames, Iowa, manufacturing cancer vaccines to be used for clinical trials. Upon leaving Ames in 2007, he entered Drake University Law School. While in Law School, Matthew was involved as a captain of the National Moot Court Team, a member of the Intellectual Property Moot Court Team, and Vice President of the Moot Court Board. Matthew was also a Supreme Court Day Finalist where he argued before the Iowa Supreme Court. Matthew was a member of the Drake University Journal of Agricultural Law. He served as a student attorney for the Drake University Legal Clinic where he represented indigent defendants before the Iowa Court of Appeals and in Iowa District Court for numerous criminal matters. Matthew was recognized for his work in the legal clinic by being awarded the Robert J. Kromminga Award. Matthew also was a student intern for the Honorable Federal District Court Judge James E. Gritzner in the Southern District of Iowa. Matthew graduated with Honors in 2010, as a member of the Order of the Barristers, and received certificates in Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Constitutional Law and Civil Rights. In his free time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife Megan and being in the outdoors.
