Description: Linda Gross, age 47, sued Johnson & Johnson d/b/a Ethicon on a products liability claiming that the defendant failed to warn her doctor of the potential dangers associated with the vaginal mesh implant that was surgically implanted in her in 2006 by her physician.

The Ethicon product was removed from the market in 2012. It was used to treat pelvic organ collapse which usually occurs after menopause, childbirth or a hysterectomy.

Plaintiff filed suit claiming that the Gyncare Prolift for pelvic prolapse led to a variety of problems, including mesh erosion, scar tissue, inflammation and neurologic compromise to structures and tissue.

Plaintiff had 18 surgeries to correct the harm done to her by Defendant's defective and unreasonably dangerous product.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $3.35 million in compensatory damages $7.76 million in punitive damages.
