Additional Information: Richard M. Smith, born in 1961 and a native of Nashville, Tennessee, is a founding partner of Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC and concentrates his practice on construction litigation, general litigation, commercial litigation, insurance defense litigation, and surety litigation.

Mr. Smith received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi in 1983 and his Juris Doctor degree from University of Mississippi Law School in 1986. After graduation from law school in 1986, Mr. Smith was employed with the law firm of Manier, Herod, Hollabaugh & Smith in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Smith remained with Manier, Herod, Hollabaugh & Smith until co-founding Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC in 1998.

Mr. Smith has lectured before the Tennessee Bar Association, Associated General Contractors, Tennessee Road Builders Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, American Institute of Architects, Consulting Engineers of Tennessee, Tennessee Ready Mix Concrete Association, and Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

In addition to his lecture participation, Mr. Smith has co-authored both “A Practical Guide to Tennessee Construction Law” and “Tennessee Construction Law.” Mr. Smith was also a contributing author of Chapter 43 of Fifty-State Construction Lien and Bond Law published in 1992 by Wiley Law Publications.

Mr. Smith is currently a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. Mr. Smith has been admitted to the Tennessee Bar, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
