Description: Class action civil rights claims by 21 named former and current Oklahoma State University students for themselves and 1,300 who claimed that they were discriminated against because they were white. Ms. Condit, the lead plaintiff, did not apply for a scholarship because she was a white female and did not think that she was eligible for a scholarship despite the fact that she scored 31 out of a possible 36 on the ACT. In order for white Regents Scholarship applicants would have to score higher than black or Hispanic scholarship applicants.
Outcome: Settled for $3.3 million including $1 million in attorney fees and costs.
