Mescalero Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor



Dexter Whiskers, 45, an enrolled member of the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe, was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a corrections officer.

In addition to the 13-year-old victim, Whiskers has been accused of physically and sexually abusing multiple women, including a minor who had been placed in foster care at his home, an inmate he was transporting for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and women with whom he was in a relationship.

Upon his release from prison, Whiskers will be subject to 15 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

The Las Cruces Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the New Mexico State Police and the full cooperation of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant United States Attorney Matilda McCarthy Villalobos is prosecuting the case.

Outcome:

Defendant was found guilty and sentenced to 15-year prison sentence. Upon his release from prison, Whiskers will be subject to 15 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.

There is no parole in the federal system
