The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a federal law that sets standards for minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor. It applies to employees in both the private sector and state and local governments, as well as federal, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The FLSA also established the Wage and Hour Division (WHD) within the Department of Labor to enforce the act.
