The Government charged that Ms. Bronfman, age 40, a Segram liquor heiress, helped fund Keith Raniere's alleged sex cult, NXIVM and that she conspired to conceal and harbor people in the U.S. illegally and with fraudulent use of identification. The Government also claimed that women were recruited and forced to engage in sexual activity were were branded.

Women were recruited to join Raniere's inner circle, DOS.
