The State of Illinois charged former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke with second-degree murder and sixteen counts of assault aggravated battery for shooting and killing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was he walked down a Chicago street on October 20, 2014.

Van Dyke took the stand and testified on his own behalf.

Outcome: Guilty on all counts. Defendant was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
