Henry Walker, age 61, a retired Army sergeant sued Walmart Stores, Inc. on a premises liability theory claiming that he was injured when his foot became trapped in a pallet beneath a box of watermelons as he reached for one in 2015. He fell and broke his hip. He claimed that the box of melons setting on top of a pallet constituted a dangerous condition.

Walmart denied wrongdoing.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $7.5 million, including $2.5 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
