McKinney is board certified in labor & employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. As a former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas and former attorney with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P., Mr. McKinney has an extensive litigation background and has tried cases to verdict in every major city in Texas. His employment law experience includes: + Representing employers and employees in cases regarding wrongful discharge, workers� compensation retaliation, defamation, and age, race and disability discrimination in every major city in Texas, in both state and federal courts . + Representing employers in agency proceedings including charges of discrimination filed with the EEOC or the Texas Commission on Human Rights, unfair labor practice charges filed with the NLRB, and wage and hour investigations by the Department of Labor. + Providing advice and guidance on a broad range of employment decisions, including high risk terminations, reductions in force, complaints of sexual harassment, and the design, implementation and revision of human resource policies in order to minimize an employer�s risk. Mr. McKinney was a National Merit Scholar and received his B.A. summa cum laude from Abilene Christian University. He received his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law, where he served as vice-dean of the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity and was named to the Order of the Barristers. Mr. McKinney has published numerous articles and is a frequent seminar speaker on employment law matters. Additionally, he is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Western and Northern Districts of Texas. He is a member of the Litigation and Employment Law Sections of the State Bar College, the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. |
