A partner and Chair of the firm’s Government and Internal Investigations Group, Chris Madel is regularly sought after to represent corporations and individuals in their most sensitive and grave matters. A 2011 Minneapolis/St. Paul StarTribune article about Mr. Madel entitled, “He pursues fraud with tenacity of linebacker,” stated: “What Madel cares about is fraud. Often, he’s working for people or companies accused of committing it or other crimes. But the Minneapolis attorney has also earned a growing national profile as the lawyer companies and organizations turn to when they think they’re being ripped off by their own senior executives.” Mr. Madel has represented corporations and individuals in many delicate and high-profile investigations and proceedings, and has tried numerous cases before juries and judges. Mr. Madel has represented prominent corporations and individuals in complex civil litigation, including “bet the company” class actions, multidistrict lawsuits, and arbitrations. Additionally, he has handled major matters involving myriad aspects of white-collar crime and obtained jury-trial acquittals for a variety of alleged crimes, including federal mail fraud, bank fraud, misapplication of bank funds, income-tax evasion, federal false statements (in income-tax returns and otherwise under 18 U.S.C. § 1001), felony false imprisonment, felony first and third degree assault charges, and other alleged crimes. In two consecutive years (2011 and 2012), Minnesota Lawyer selected Mr. Madel as an “Attorney of the Year.” The National Trial Lawyers Association named him as a “Top 100 Trial Lawyer” in 2012. His peers have selected him as a “Super Lawyer” each year since 2003. In 2012, Thomson Reuters/Aspartore selected Mr. Madel to write a chapter of its book, “Managing White Collar Legal Issues: Leading Lawyers on Understanding Client Expectations, Conducting Internal Investigations, and Analyzing the Impact of Recent Cases.” And in late 2012, Mr. Madel appeared on the cover of the premier issue of Attorney at Law magazine in Minnesota. The article regarding Mr. Madel concluded by stating, “Whether it’s seeing to it that justice is served or ensuring that his clients are acquitted, Christopher Madel represents either side of the table with integrity, staunch loyalty and legal expertise that continue to set the benchmark in local, regional and national cases.”
