Brendan Rielly has experience in a broad range of civil matters in both state and federal courts as well as before the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and has recently been admitted to the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Brendan's practice area focuses on commercial litigation, real estate litigation (including easements and rights of way), school law, probate litigation, public utilities law, environmental compliance and personal injury. Brendan has also served as local counsel for major law firms in both state and federal courts, most recently serving as local counsel in a patent infringement suit in federal court. Brendan graduated from Bowdoin College (magna cum laude, 1992) where he was awarded the DeAlva Stanwood Alexander Award as the commencement speaker. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School (magna cum laude, 1996) which he attended under the Kiley Scholarship (a full tuition scholarship). He was awarded the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence in the fields of Environmental Law, Constitutional Law and Complex Litigation. Brendan served as notes editor for the Notre Dame Law Review in which he published a note entitled Using RICO to Attack Environmental Crime: The Case for Listing Violations of RCRA as Predicate Offenses Under RICO. Brendan is serving his third term as a City Councilor for the City of Westbrook, and has been elected to serve as Council President. He also serves as President of the Westbrook Education Foundation, a nonprofit corporation founded to promote innovation and excellence in Westbrook schools. Brendan is also President emeritus of Rebuilding Together-Greater Portland, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to renovating houses for low-income individuals and families. He also serves as a representative to the Council of Governments. He lives in Westbrook with his wife, Erica, and three children, Morgan, Shannon and Maura.
