Additional Information: Mr. Aten graduated magna cum laude from Vermont Law School in 1993. He clerked for the Vermont trial courts for one year, then developed a civil litigation practice, focusing primarily on insurance defense and insurance coverage cases. From 2008 to 2013, Mr. Aten worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, where he defended state agencies and state employees in civil lawsuits. Mr. Aten has litigated numerous civil jury trials to verdict in both state and federal courts, and has argued appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court. Mr. Aten graduated in 1982 from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
In 1986, he and his wife moved to Montpelier, Vermont, where they raised two sons. In his youth, Mr. Aten led wilderness canoe trips in Ontario, Canada, and he still likes to get out and paddle when he can.
