Zareh is a member of the Appellate Group and is certified as a specialist in appellate law by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Zareh’s practice focuses on civil appeals and complex litigation including financial services, consumer class actions, commercial real estate, labor and employment, and other commercial and personal injury cases involving significant legal issues and substantial amounts in controversy, including punitive damages. Zareh has had primary responsibility for dozens of appeals in California state and federal courts, including the California Supreme Court, and has argued numerous cases in both state and federal courts. He also has worked on appeals in the United States Supreme Court and the intermediate appellate courts of other states.
Zareh also works closely with and advises trial counsel during ongoing trials regarding record preservation and other procedural issues in order to maximize the chances of prevailing on appeal. He has extensive experience both in bringing and opposing post-trial motions, including motions for attorney fees and costs.
Zareh regularly writes and speaks about appellate practice as well as developments in substantive law areas of interest to Reed Smith clients.
In addition to his appellate expertise, Zareh has extensive experience as a litigator in the fields of financial services litigation, commercial real estate disputes, and class actions. In this role, he has taken part in trials and arbitrations, conducted and defended numerous depositions, and prepared and argued countless dispositive motions.
Zareh graduated from UCLA in 1996 with degrees in Philosophy and Political Science and from UCLA School of Law in 1999. During law school, he externed for Judge Harry Pregerson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He also externed for United States District Court Judge Dean Pregerson.
