Description: Fair Credit Reporting Act claim by plaintiff who claimed that Trans Union repeatedly reported the bad debts of Judith L. Upton as the debts of Judy C. Upton. The two women had similar names, the same birthday and social security numbers that varied by only one number. Plaintiff discovered the problem in 1996 and reported the problem to Trans Union. In 1999, she could not close on a mortgage for three months because of the credit reports made by Trans Union.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $5.3 million.
