Case Style: Gladys Hernandez v. Dr. Janet Arribas
Case Number:
Judge: Randal C. Chiocca
Court: Superior Court, Passaic County, New Jersey
Plaintiff's Attorney: Peter L. MacIsaac
Defendant's Attorney: Robert Donnelly
Description: Gladys Hernandez sued Dr. Janet Arribas on a medical negligence (medical malpractice) theory seeking wrongful deaht damages claiming that 23-year-old daughter, Kiomara, died as a direct result of substandard care provided to her daughter by Defendant in April 2007. Plaintiff also sued St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center and Dr. Edward Glavey on the same theories.
Plaintiff claimed that Kiomara died because Arribas failed to report post-operative test results that would have signaled a serious injury of the vessels supplying blood to Hernandez’s liver. She claimed that the injury was caused by the lead surgeon and could have been fixed in time to save Hernandez’s life had the test results been revealed to someone.
Defendant denied wrongdoing.
Outcome: Defendant's verdict. Plaintiff's claims against St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center and Dr. Edward Glavey were settled before trial for undisclosed sums.
