Description:

Giacomo Lijoi a/k/a "Chef Jock" sued General Motors Corporation on a products liability theory for the injuries he sustained in an accident in August 2001. He cliamed that the safety restraint system in the 11996 Pontiac Grand Am that he was driving was unreasonably dangerous and defective with the result that he sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. Lijoi also claimed that GM knew its safety restraint system would not prevent serious injury or death in rollover crashes but failed to warn consumers.

General Motors denied that the automobile that it designed, manufactured and sold was defective or unreasonably dangerous. GM claimed that argued there was no other safety restraint system on the market that could have prevented the plaintiff's injuries.

Outcome: Defendant's verdict.
