Paul Barrows claimed that the University of Wisconsin-Madison treated him unfairly and forced him to resign his position as vice chancellor in November 2004 after learning of his relationship with a 40-year-old graduate student and receiving a memo from then-Dean of Students Luoluo Hong that made other accusations about Barrows' inappropriate behavior toward women. The University claimed that Barrows' consensual relationship with the student was unprofessional but broke no school rules. Barrows was eventually reprimanded.
