Sonya Watson and the Estate of Patricia Carter sued Ford Motor Company, TRW Vehicle Safety Systems Inc. and D and D Motors on a products liability theory for the injuries sustained by Watson and for the damages suffered by the Carter family as a result of the death of Carter in an accident involving a 1995 Ford Explorer in 1999. Plaintiff claimed that the cruise control and seat belts in the vehicle was defective and unreasonably dangerous. Watson suffered spinal cord injuries that rendered her a quadriplegic and Carter was killed when they were thrown from the vehile when it rollover during the accident.
The defendants denied that the products that they designed and manufacturer were defective.
