They claimed that as a direct result of the failure of Defendant to provide appropriate care to Mr. Richards, he had a heart attack and a blood clot in his lung which caused his death. Mr. Richards was 84 when he died. The defenses asserted by Defendant are not available. Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $20 million.
