Walgreens Case Number: Unknown Judge: Unknown Court: Circuit Court, Cook County, Illinois Plaintiff's Attorney: Unknown Defendant's Attorney: Unknown Description: Pharmacy ngligence claim by Alexandra Gehrke, age 6, and her parents relating to the misfilling Alexandra's prescription for Phenobarbital with Glipizide with resulting seizures and brain damage. Alexandra Gehrke was born prematurely in 1999 and her doctors prescribed Phenobarbital but the Walgreens pharmacy in Elgin, Illinois where her mother went to get the prescription gave her Glipizide, a diabeties drug. Two months and five seizures passed before the prescription error was discovered. The Gehrkes claimed that Alexandra suffered irreversiable brian damage from the seizures, which could have been prevented by the right drug. She cannot walk or feed herself, and could barely communicate. Walgreens admitted the error but denied there was any causal connection between the mistake and Alexandra's brain damage.
