Johnathan Quavehema, 23, of Second Mesa, Ariz., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa to 14 years of imprisonment. Quavehema had previously pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit murder.
In October 2015, Quavehema, who is a member of the Hopi Tribe, violently assaulted a female member of the Hopi Community. During the assault, Quavehema restrained the victim from leaving her home and threatened to kill her.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs-Office of Justice Services (Hopi Agency).
Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
