Description: Nursing Home Negligence - Wrongful Death - Elfreida Marjorie Rodden, age 86, sustained two broken legs while being moved from a hair to her bed by Jessica Edwards. She died 52 days later. Her family claimed that she was injured and died as a result of Integrated Health Services' failure to hire adequate staff and to train its employees to properly transfer patients. They claimed that defendant should have known that a minimum of two people using a gait belt or a wheelchair were needed to move Elfrieda from one location to another. Plaintiff also claimed that defendant covered up the severity of the injuries sustained by Elfreida, and, that Elfrieda suffered bedsores, dehydration, malnutrition, and infections while under the care of defendant.
Outcome: Settled for $1 million.
