Description: Kurt Vroman, a union official for the Volusia County Fire Department, sued Volusia County, James Tauber, James Willits and Terry Moore for firing him in violation of his First Amendment rights in retaliation for leading a no-confidence vote against Fire Chief Jim Tauber in 2004.

Defendants denied wrongdoing.

Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $10,000 plus a ruling by Judge Antoon that Volusia County must rehire Vroman, a former lieutenant, and compensate him for lost salary and benefits as well as require the county to pay for about a half million dollars for his attorney fees.
