Preston Anthony King, 23, of Burleson, Texas, appeared on August 9, 2017 in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey L. Cureton and pleaded guilty to one count of enticement of a minor.
King, who has been in custody since November 2016 on a related complaint, faces not less than 10 years and not more than life in federal prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for December 12, 2017.
According to documents filed in the case, on March 14, 2016, a Fort Worth Police Officer acting in an undercover capacity and posing as a 13-year-old girl responded to an advertisement that King posted on Craigslist. (link is external) The description of the advertisement indicated that King was looking to engage in sexual intercourse. During the conversation, the officer told King that she was 13 years old, and later in the conversation King told the officer that he wanted to engage in sexual intercourse with her. King agreed to meet, who he thought was a 13-year-old girl, on March 15, 2016, at a hotel room in Fort Worth, Texas, to engage in sexual intercourse. When King arrived at the agreed location the Fort Worth Police Department took King into custody.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative, which was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
