Tamara Donald, 39, Loves Park, Ill., was sentenced to two years of probation for theft of mail. In addition, Donald was order to pay $117.87 to the victims in the case. Donald, formerly a postal support employee at the U.S. Post Office in Beloit, Wis., pleaded guilty to this charge on August 3, 2017.

During an interview with federal investigators, Donald admitted that she stole and later redeemed Menards gift cards she took from the mail while working as postal support employee. Following the interview, federal investigators searched Donald’s car and found opened and unopened letters, as well as gift cards, gift card packaging, non-endorsed personal checks, and money orders that appeared to have been removed from mail items. The federal investigation revealed that over 250 postal customers were affected by Donald’s crimes.

The charges against Donald were a result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General.

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to two years of probation for theft of mail. In addition, Donald was order to pay $117.87 to the victims in the case.
