Description: MADISON, WI. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced the arrest of Gregory Porter, 58, last night at his residence in Rhinelander, Wis. Porter was indicted on December 17 by a federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison. Porter will make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison today.
The indictment alleges that between November 2012 and April 2014, Porter traveled between Wisconsin and New Jersey, between Wisconsin and Minnesota, between Wisconsin and Colorado, and between Wisconsin and South Carolina, and failed to update his registration as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
If convicted, Porter faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service.
