Description: MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Aneudy Benitez-Martinez, 33, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Lynn S. Adelman to 21 months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Benitez-Martinez pleaded guilty to these charges on November 13, 2013.

On August 22, 2013, Benitez-Martinez was arrested in Edgerton, Wis., for illegal re-entering the United States. During the arrest, officers found a .44 Magnum revolver in Benitez-Martinez’s home. In a post-arrest interview, Benitez-Martinez admitted to illegally re-entering the country and possessing a firearm. Benitez-Martinez has a prior felony conviction for distribution of cocaine from the state of Oklahoma.

The charges against Benitez-Martinez were the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Rock County Safe Streets Task Force. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Reinhard.
